ANDREW TURNER CHOSEN AS ISLANDS FAVOURITE
Andrew Turner of the Conservative Party has been chosen as the Isle of Wight MP.
The announcement was made by Returning Officer Peter Kingston at 03:06 on Friday 7 May at Medina Leisure Centre in Newport. The turnout was 64.02% (70,376 votes) and the individual votes were as follows:-
Mark Hammond Chiverton — The Labour Party Candidate - 8,169
Geof Clynch — British National Party - 1,457
Edward Corby — Independent - 66
Ian Malcolm Dunsire — The English Democrats - “Putting England First!” - 1,233
Pete Harris — Independent - 175
Bob Keats — Green Party - 931
Paul Martin — Middle England Party - 616
Paul David Randle-Jolliffe — Independent - 89
Mike Tarrant — UK Independence Party (UKIP) - 2,435
Andrew John Turner — Conservative Party - 32,810
Jill Wareham — Liberal Democrats - 22,283
There were 112 rejected ballot papers.
