CONSERVATIVE WINS THE ISLE OF WIGHT 2010 ELECTION

The votes has now been counted and we can announce that Andrew Turner has won the Isle of Wight election 2010

The results were not due to be announced until 3.30am this morning but due to the fast working council workers they were published at just after 3am

Jill Wareham 22,283

Mark Chiverton 8,169

Geoffrey Clynch 1,457

Edward Corby 66

Peter Harris 175

Robert Keats 931

Ian Dunshire 1,233, Paul Martin 616, Paul Randle Jolliffe 89, Micheal Tarrant 2,435

A total of 70,387 votes were cast. That’s 64.02% of the eligible electorate on the Isle of Wight. Andrew Turner gained an extra 103 Votes

Mr Turner thanked his staff and opponents in his victory speech, singling out Labour candidate Mark Chiverton for his kindness when he fell ill and the support that he gave him.

In 2005 the turnout was 61.3%.
