ARMED ROBBERY TERROR AT NEWPORT SHOP

A FEMALE shop worker was threatened with a metal crowbar during a terrifying armed robbery at a Newport shop.

The lone robber entered the Spar convenience store on Hunny Hill, Newport shortly after 8pm this evening(Monday November 15).

The masked and armed robber threatened a terrified female shop worker demanding money from the till.

After the woman had opened the till the thief threatened customers and other staff and told them to stay still and not to leave the shop.

The thief ran off towards Albany Road with a quantity of money.

The robber, who struck around 8pm Monday, is described as wearing a red and white mask over his face and dark clothing.

Force control room Inspector Martin Gilham from Hampshire and IW Police said: “The police were called at 8.10pm this evening after being alerted by staff that a robbery had taken place within the shop.”

“A young female shop worker was threatened with what is belived to of been an iron bar. The worker was very shaken, but unhurt in the incident.”

“Officers have cordoned off the shop and scene of crime officers are to carry out an investigation.”

Mr Gilham issued an appeal for customers or any witnesses who were in the shop at the time or in the area who have information in respect of the robbery to contact to the police.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Newport CID on 101. From outside Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, call police on 0845 045 45 45.

Information can also be given anonymously by phoning the independent Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111. No one will know you called.

  1. i hope ther shop assistant is ok but why stand there and let him rob the till he had a metal crowbar not a gun just hit him with something, when someone tried to take money from the shop near my uncles in milton keynes one of the customers threw a tin of food at his back the robber ran off in pain
