MAN TAKEN TO HOSPITAL AFTER FLIPPING CAR
A MAN believed to be in his eighties is this evening recovering in hospital after flipping his car on to it’s roof.
Emergency services were called to the scene on The Broadway in Sandown just after 3.20pm this afternoon (December 12).
Rapid response paramedics from Isle of Wight ambulance service, backed up by an ambulance crew, treated the pensioner at the scene after he managed to scramble free from the upturned vehicle.
The shaken man was later transferred to St Mary’s hospital with minor injuries by the land ambulance from Newport.
Officers from Shanklin Roads Policing unit implemented a local traffic diversion after the man vehicle struck road furniture leaving exploded live electrical cables on a zebra crossing.
Local bus services that run through The Broadway were also diverted whilst police launched a probe into how the collision happened.
A spokesman from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police confirmed that a male had been taken to hospital with what is being described as minor injuries.
The spokesman went to say that the road would remain closed whilst officers at the scene awaited engineers from the Islands highways department and Scottish and Southern Power to make the area safe.

Road furniture !!!!! It has a flashing yellow light on it to warn drivers its a crossing.Good job it wasn’t roadworks with numberous flashing yellow lights, could have wiped out a complete roadwork team.
