Emergency services are currently attending an incident involving multiple vehicles on Main Road, Shalfleet.
Fire crews, using specialist cutting equipment from the rescue tender, have freed three people, aged in their 20s, on spinal boards from a blue Vauxhall Corsa. The occupants, believed to be a couple from the Yarmouth area, were taking a friend to St Mary’s Hospital when the accident occured. One 23-year-old women has also been freed from a silver Mitsubishi Gallant.
A spokesman for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police said: “Hard road closures have been implemented in Shalfleet at the junction of Pound Lane and are likely to remain in place until at least 3pm today.
These are likely to be in place for the rest of the day, as assistance from our collegues from the Crash Investigation Team has been requested”. The spokesman went on to say that “all parties involved within the accident are deemed to be in a serious condition”.

Police, Fire and Ambulance services were called to the scene shortly after 9.12am this morning (Thursday) to a report of persons trapped in multiple vehicles.
Duty officer Jeff Walls from Isle of Wight Fire Service spokesman said ” Firefighters from Newport whole time supported by retained fire crews from Newport and Yarmouth freed the trapped parties using specialist cutting from the rescue tender to remove the roof of both vehicles.
