The Royal Navy Bomb Disposal Unit from Portsmouth carried out two controlled explosions in Totland Bay, Isle of Wight this morning (Monday March 14th).
The team of 4 specialists were called in after council workers clearing shrubbery discovered a 2-inch mortar shortly after 10.30am this morning at Highdown Lane, Totland.
Police cordoned off the area while bomb disposal experts removed the device to carry out a controlled explosion. While removing the first device, a second device was discovered, which was also removed and a second controlled explosion was carried out.
This comes only 24 hours after the Royal Navy Bomb Disposal Unit carried out a controlled explosion at the same location, again discovered by the council workers.
No one was injured and police are not treating the incident as suspicious.
