PINKNESS will be breaking out all over the Island from today as the annual ‘Isle of Pink’ fundraising month for the Breast Cancer Campaign gets underway.
In a feline fashion statement the four lions along Cowes seafront will be wearing pink collars to kick start September’s fundraising and awareness-raising push.
Shanklin High Street will be decorating lampposts with pink ribbons, and businesses along the street will be selling the distinctive new Isle of Pink ribbons to fundraise for the cause, as will other outlets across the Island.
Wightlink Fast Cats and Hovertravel Hovercrafts will also be turning things pink for the campaign, Blackgang Chine has already hosted a pink wild-west party and fundraisers will be selling ribbons at the Bestival.
The pink month will draw to a close with Pink Aerobics - a two hour session of sponsored aerobics including Zumba, Street Cheer, Broadway Boogie and Pilates led by top island fitness instructors.
The event takes place on Sunday September 26 at Carisbrooke High School, Newport, from 11am-1pm. If you would like to take part in Pink Aerobics please visit www.breastcancercampaign.org/isleofpink and sign up online.
You can also show your support by making a text donation. Text PINK to 70099 to make a £2 donation today. Text messages cost £2 plus one message at your standard network rate. Breast Cancer Campaign will receive a minimum of £1.76 from each message sent. (£1.48 from Virgin Mobile users).
Over the last two years the Isle of Pink has raised over £46,000 to help Breast Cancer Campaign continue funding vital breast cancer research - that’s £1 for every person diagnosed with breast cancer each year in the UK.
Lauren Basket, Breast Cancer Campaign Community Development Manager, said “Each year the Isle of Pink just keeps getting bigger and better so we’re really excited to make this year’s event even more of a success. We need your help though, so make sure you get into the pink spirit this September to help us beat breast cancer by funding vital research.”
