THE BODY of a 19 year old has been recovered this lunchtime from the Bembridge ledge area The Gazette can reveal.
The skipper on board the Emma J spotted the body floating in the water shortly after 12.15 today (Saturday August 14th).
A full air and sea search involving the all weather lifeboat from Bembridge, the independent lifeboat from Sandown and coastguard search and rescue teams from Bembridge and Newport were involved in searching the Culver Down cliffs for clues.
Further coastguard teams searched the Yaverland beach and cliff near to the Sandown holiday area for a tent, after a bag of clothing was found nearby to where the body was recovered.
The coastguard rescue helicopter from Lee on the Solent has carried out an aerial search after transferring the body of the boy to St Mary’s hospital.
