A Newport man who sparked a search after going missing whilst working on a houseboat has been found dead.
Guy Ebsworth, 33, from Little London who went missing from a houseboat on the river Medina last Saturday (August 7) sparked a missing person search after his parents contacted police, concerned for his welfare.
A search was carried out by police and coastguard search and rescue teams, but nothing was found.
A member of public contacted the police early Friday evening (August 13) after a body was located within a boat on a jetty near a sailing school.
Police called in IW fire service to help recover the body early Friday evening after officers had failed to spot the body when they first carried out the search.
A spokesman for Hampshire an IW Police said “Police can confirm a body found on board a yacht in a boatyard at Newport on the Isle of Wight on Friday, August 13 is that of a man reported missing.
A family friend formally identified Guy Darley Ebsworth, aged 33, of Little London, Newport, on the afternoon of Monday, August 16.
Next-of-kin and the Isle of Wight Coroner have been informed.
A post-mortem examination to establish the cause of death is due to be carried out tomorrow (Wednesday, August 18, 2010)
Police are not treating the death as suspicious.
