Emergency services were called out just after 4.30pm this afternoon, Monday September 20, to a multi vehicle crash on Victoria Avenue, Shanklin.
Fire crews from IW fire service, Shanklin made safe the vehicles after fuel and oil leaked from the vehicles.
An 89 year male from the Shanklin area was taken away by ambulance with injuries described as serious by a police spokesman.
The driver of the second vehicle and his passenger were unhurt.
A police spokesman said the road was likely to be closed for a number of hours whilst recovery takes place of the damaged vehicles.
The road will remain closed until this is complete.
A spokesperson for Southern Vectis said: “The bus services 2 and 3 are badly effected due to the road closure,” and asked customers to bear with them while they run limited service.
Officers from the Roads policing unit in Shanklin are appealing for any witnesses and they are asked to contact PC1455 on 101 or 0845 045 45 45
