SERIOUS CRASH LEAVES TWO INJURED

A car has left the road following a serious crash on the Blackwater Hollow Road near Rookley in the early hours of this morning(Thursday) leaving the road closed.

Two people have been taken to St Mary’s Hospital after the vehicle that they were travelling left the road and hit a tree.

A 30 year old man from Ventnor and his passenger were both treated at the scene by Paramedics before being taken to hospital for treatment.

The driver, sustained serious, life threatening injuries. The second escaped with minor fractures and bruising.

The incident occurred just before the Highwood Lane junction and near to Sandy Lane just after 1am this morning.

A specialist collision investigator from Winchester has been called in to establish how the crash happened.

It is believed that a Ford Focus ST was travelling towards Shanklin when it left the road to the off-side on a left-hand bend, hit a tree and spun 180 degrees before coming to rest on the verge with the tree on top of it.

Officers from the Roads Policing unit are appealing for witnesses and are asking anyone who witnessed the collision or saw the Ford focus vehicle prior to the incident to come forward.

A number of road closures have been put in place and the road closures are expected to cause traffic delays during the early part of the rush hour.

A number of bus services are having to be rerouted said a spokesman for Southern Vectis.

The road is expected to remain closed until at least 9am this morning.
