THE DRIVER of a van carrying greetings cards and post card was fortunate to escape without injury after his vehicle flipped over in Shanklin on Monday morning (October 11).
The 49-year-old freed himself from the wreckage of the white Fiat van. Police said the driver who comes from Shanklin, had a lucky to escape and suffered only minor facial injuries after the van hit the rear of a parked car, launched into the air, and overturned.
Victoria Avenue in Shanklin was closed in both directions for two hours while police dealt with the accident. PC Evans, of the Shanklin’s road policing unit, said the force was alerted to the two-vehicle crash just after 8am by passing motorists.
He said the van was travelling on the Victoria Road in Shanklin towards the village when it left the road and flipped over before landing on its side. The cause of the crash is unknown at this time.
PC Evans said: “The driver is very lucky to have escaped without serious injury.”
Tailbacks built up for about a mile in both directions as local diversions were set up for buses and other road users. IW Ambulance service also attended the scene to check over both drivers.
