A 80 year pensioner is recovering this afternoon after being over come by gas fumes The gazette can reveal.
Two fire appliances from Newport fire station attended the property in Mountbatten Drive in Newport shortly after 11.30 today (December 7).
It is believed that carers found the man on the floor of his bedroom and alerted the IW Fire and Ambulance Service after the man stated that he fall fell unconscious from smelling nauseating gas in the property.
Fire crews wearing breathing apparatus and a gas detector checked the pensioner property for any signs of leak.
A Solo paramedics treated the man who was suffering from other medical problem before he was taken to St Mary’s hospital in Newport by ambulance for further treatment.
Watch Manager Nigel Probert from Isle of Wight Fire said” We were alerted by the man care workers who had been attended the property after confused man stated that he collapsed after inhaling gas.
The carer had opened all the windows and started to ventilated the property. Crews used the a gas detector unit but no gas was detected.
