BOMB DISPOSAL CALLED TO SHORWELL
A PORTSMOUTH based Navy bomb squad were summoned to the Island this afternoon (December after a metal detector uncovered a World War Two unexploded bomb in a field near to Main Road, Shorwell.
Horses grazing nearby had to be evacuated after the discovery.
The bomb is believed to be a 10-inch mortar. Police have taped off the area and Bomb Squad officers have carried out a controlled explosion said a Navy spokesperson.
The spokesman went on to say, no properties have been affected or evacuated.
