HOME OWNERS PUT ON FLOOD ALERT AFTER POWER CUT IN RYDE

RESIDENTS in the Ryde area of the Island were put on flood alert as a result of a power cut that hit over 2,000 properties The Gazette can reveal.

The Environment Agency issued the alert after power that feeds the Monktonmead Brook pumping station was cut.

A high voltage electric cable developed a fault plunging many home into darkness and the loss of power to the station.

Hayley Wilabey, spokeswoman for the Environment Agency, said “There were fears of flooding in the Monktonmead Brook area because of the power cut.

“This is now not the case. An engineer has been out to the pumping station and checked that power has been restored by the power company.

“The pumps are now back on line and working correctly.” She went on to say that the warning is now going to be canceled.
