Island Police are seeking help from the public to recover a rare mountain bike, valued at around £6000 taken from a Cowes Car Park.

The bicycle was taken from the back of a red Renault Clio parked in the Co-op car park off Denmark Road in Cowes sometime between 4.30pm and 11.50pm on Saturday, January 15, 2011.

It’s described as a white framed ‘Intense Socom’ mountain bike, which was purpose-built to the owner’s specification with specialist components with the following specialist accessories.

The stolen bike also has a large number plate with 694 in bold print on it.

The total value of the bike and its accessories is estimated at approximately £6,000.

PC Justin Pringle is appealing to bike dealers around the island to be on the lookout for the custom-built machine, which is used for racing.

Investigating officer PC Pringle of the Cowes Safer Neighbourhoods team said: “This theft has severely disrupted the ambitions of a semi-professional cyclist who had plans to compete abroad this year.

“We’re pursuing several lines of enquiry and would like to thank staff in bike shops across the island for their help with our investigation so far.

“I’m keen to hear from anyone with information about the whereabouts of this distinctive bike or the identity of the thief who stole it.”
