Emergency services were called to Main Road, Rookley shortly after 12.50pm today, after a motorcycle and large van collided.
The motorbike rider, a man from Ventnor, was rushed to St Mary’s Hospital in Newport by Ambulance. A spokesman for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police said: “The man has suffered life threatening injuries”.
It is reported that diesel from the van has spilled onto the road.
Police have closed Main Road, Rookley between Bohemia Corner and the junction at Niton Road.
Witnesses are asked to contact Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police on 0845 045 45 45 quoting Operation OARFISH.
UPDATE (18:09): Main Road, Rookley is to remain closed until at least 19.00 hours this evening (Thursday).
