Posted by Jason Kay On January - 22 - 2011 at 3:27 pm

Police and Council Highway bosses closed Niton Road in the early hours of this morning (Saturday January 22) after a woman lost control shortly after 10.10pm on Friday night and collided with a road gutter. Sheet Ice had formed on the road surface as temperatures plummeted.

The woman was treated by Paramedics at the scene and taken to St Mary’s Hospital by Isle of Wight Ambulance service. She was later released after treatment.

Police closed the road after it received a number of calls from concerned drivers who reported that ice patches were present.

The Road between Rookley Main Village and Leaksmoor Cross is still closed and has remained closed for most of the day whilst council gritter lorries try to remove the sheet ice.
