Emergency services are currently attending a road traffic collision involving two cars and a motorcycle at Medina Way, Newport, Isle of Wight.

Three elderly people in their 70s, travelling in a convertible Morris Minor, have been extracted on spinal boards with neck and back injuries and have been taken the short distance to St Mary’s Hospital.

A female teenager riding a Vespa scooter has also been taken to St Mary’s Hospital.

The collision happened shortly after 3.30pm this afternoon (Tuesday January 25) on the southbound carriageway near to Wakes Retail Park, Newport.

Police have closed Medina Way in both directions and are diverting traffic through Dodnor Industrial Estate and through the town.

It is believed that a lorry had stopped to assist a broken down motorist on Medina Way, shortly before a silver BMW collided head-on with the Morris Minor.

PC Martin Norman from the Shanklin Road Policing Unit said: “Motorists are advised to avoid the area as the road is likely to be closed for a number of hours”.
