‘The Gazette’ has learnt that authorities have recovered a body in the Freshwater area following a search and rescue operation to find a missing man.
Island police, with the assistance of the HM Coastguard, recovered the body shortly after 9am this morning (Monday April 4).
It is believed that the body is that of 45-year-old Ian Lanfear, who went missing from his home address in Freshwater yesterday morning.
The Isle of Wight coroner has been informed of the find.
Police launched an appeal yesterday to find Mr Lanfear, as it was believed he was in a vulnerable condition.
Coastguard Rescue teams, the Freshwater Independent Lifeboat and the Sussex Police helicopter joined in the search for Mr Lanfear yesterday evening, searching the land and sea surrounding Freshwater Bay.
