FIRE CREWS BATTLE HOUSE BLAZE IN NEWPORT

Thirty Fire fighters from Newport, Cowes, East Cowes and Yarmouth fire stations battled to stop the spread of fire in mid terrace house to neighbouring properties this afternoon

Crew where called shortly after 4pm today after the alarm was raised by neighbours who spotted flames and smoke bellowing from the property.

There are currently three pumping appliances and the Bronto sky lift in use attempting to gain control of the fire.

A number of ambulances have been sent to property in Royal exchange Road Newport.

Police officers have closed the road and have set up local diversion whilst crews attemted to gain control of the blaze

One resident who did not wished to be named said that a number of people have been lead away from the property and there was a large amount of flames could be seen from the top floor bedroom window.

A spokesman for Isle of Wight fire and rescue service said “Crews are in attendants attempting to gain control of fire. We are likely to be there for sometime.”

A local resident spoke of her concern, believing her house was about to go up in flames, after watching flames shoot out of the bottom windows of the neighbouring property, which has been destroyed in the blaze.
