CRASH COUPLE STILL SERIOUS
AN ELDERLY couple who were freed from their car by firefighters yesterday, after a collision at the notorious accident black spot at the top of Knighton Shute, are still being treated for their injuries in St Mary’s Hospital.
The Gazette has learned that the 92 year old driver of the Peugot 306 suffered serious injuries to his legs, spine and chest and that his 90 year old wife, who was a passenger in the car, suffered rib and arm injuries.
A twelve year old girl who was a passenger in the red Ford Fiesta was treated at St Mary’s Hospital and later released. Her mother who was driving was unhurt.
Police are still continuing to piece together how the accident occurred. Sgt Paul Bailey from the Shanklin Roads Policing Unit (RPU) urged any members of the public who may have witnessed the collision to contact the RPU on 101 quoting ‘Operation Seamstress’ or to phone 0845 045 4545 if outside Hampshire and the IW.
