BIKER HURT IN STAPLERS CRASH IN NEWPORT

A motorcyclist has been taken to St Mary’s hospital with injuries after being involved in a crash.

The motorcycle was involved in a collision with a Ford Ka car on Staplers roundabout in Newport just before 9am this morning (Friday June 11).

Three police cars, a rapid response paramedic and an ambulance attended the scene to treat the injured man.

One witness who spoke to The Gazette said “The biker looked in a bit of a bad way, the paramedics were treating him at the side of the road. They had put a neck collar on him and were loading him into the ambulance. His bike was just in bits in the middle of the road. There was lots of police talking to the driver and other people who witnessed the smash.”

The accident affected the flow of traffic moving to and from the festival site at Seaclose Park. Small traffic jams are still trying to be cleared by police.

A spokeswoman for Hampshire and IW Police said the rider had been taken to hospital for treatment, she could not confirm the nature of the biker’s injuries.
