WOMAN PLUCKED FROM SEA BY COWES LIFEBOAT
A dramatic rescue took place this afternoon Friday (August 20)after a 44 year old woman was reported missing by her partner.
The woman from Cowes is believed to of had an argument with her partner and than taken an overdose. She went missing just after 4.30pm.
Hampshire and IW police working with RNLI Cowes lifeboat and the MCA (Marine Coastguard agency) plucked the woman from the sea after she was spoted trying to swim from Castle Point to near by Osbourne Bay.
The RNLI Cowes inshore lifeboat transferred the woman to Trinity point to an awaiting ambulance.
The woman has been taken to St Mary’s hospital for treatment under Police escort.
It is not known how serious the woman’s injuries are or what state she is in.
A Cowes boat owner who did not wish to be named said ” I was sailing my boat near Castle point when I saw a woman’s head bobbing up and down in the water, she looked very distress”
A spokesman for Cowes RNLI said”
We carried out a short search and located the distressed woman, she was swimming fully clothed about 25 yards off the shore.
She was helped into the Atlantic 85 lifeboat and taken to Trinity Landing, Cowes, where she was taken by ambulance to St Mary’s Hospital, Newport, escorted by a police car.
